Howard A. Balsam
Partner
Howard is a Partner at FBPF LLP and a civil litigator who, for over 20 years, has focused primarily on holding tortfeasors accountable while maximizing compensation for clients who have suffered as accident victims of negligence across construction, automobile, and premises liability.
Howard’s strong reputation and thriving practice are the result of his many client victories. Tireless in his dedication and passion for in-court advocacy, Howard often takes cases all the way to trial, fighting relentlessly for injury victims. His clients have never doubted his commitment to their cases because Howard takes their fights personally, delivering results that speak for themselves.
Howard’s view of his role as counselor and advisor is simple and arises from his unwavering commitment to justice: “Fighting for the little guy against large corporate defendants is more than just my job, it’s my passion and purpose.”
During law school, Howard cut his teeth at New York’s preeminent plaintiff’s firm, Schneider Kleinick Weiss Damashek Shoot. Shortly after, Howard’s unique and immersive litigation experience cultivated resilience, confidence, grit, and fortitude. He conducted his first jury trial the day after being admitted to the New York State bar—a defining moment that solidified his passion for courtroom advocacy, which he has pursued relentlessly ever since.
Over the following decades, Howard expanded his practice beyond personal injury, developing a strong presence in commercial and real estate litigation. He also built a robust transactional practice, advising parties and lenders on a wide range of real estate matters. From negotiating complex purchase and sale agreements to managing challenging closings for commercial and residential properties—including buildings, townhouses, cooperative share ownerships, and condominium board matters—Howard’s comprehensive expertise has made him a trusted resource for clients and colleagues alike. Many lawyers seeking representation turn to Howard, recognizing his unique ability to blend transactional insight with a deep understanding of how disputes can escalate into litigation. This rare combination allows him to anticipate challenges and consistently deliver exceptional results.
Howard’s client base reflects the breadth of his skills and reputation, including real estate owners and developers, professional athletes, fellow attorneys, blue-collar workers, and day laborers. His diverse personal injury caseload, coupled with his multidisciplinary experience, enables him to synthesize complex litigation issues and provide innovative solutions tailored to his clients’ needs.
In 2008, Howard founded US Legal Fund, one of the first pre-settlement funding companies, creating a vital opportunity to level the playing field for personal injury victims. Under his oversight, US Legal Fund loaned tens of millions of dollars to injured litigants unable to work or earn an income during the pendency of their cases, ensuring they could pursue justice without facing financial ruin.
Despite his busy schedule, Howard makes time to pursue his passions for gardening, cooking, and travel photography. His priorities remain steadfast: family, friends, and the meaningful service of his clients.
